The second largest diamond in the world has been discovered

Canadian miner Lucara Diamonds has just announced the discovery of what is, as of today, the second largest diamond in the world. A discovery that has displaced the well-known Lesedi la Rona diamond that had thus far occupied that position.

Introducing the second largest diamond in the world

The diamond in question has a total gross weight of 1758 carats. Although everything points to a considerable lack of quality that is visible even to the naked eye.

Currently, the company is in the process of receiving a definitive classification. For the moment, the stone has been granted a quality “very close to the gem”.

Until the final laboratory results are in we will not know what the conclusive colour and clarity characteristics will be. And when that happens we will also find out if this diamond has managed to unseat the largest diamond found in the 21st century.

Undoubtedly, a very important discovery in the world of jewellery that we will be following closely here at Ramon Jewellers.
