The truth is a diamond of these proportions is anything but usual. This gemstone has been put on the sales market to mark the opening of Sotherby´s Diamonds first store in the London, the subsidiary of the well-known auction house.
The diamond has an exact weight of 102.34 carats, with a D colour quality and IF clarity.
As we said, it is anything but usual to see diamonds of these proportions, particularly in round cuts. Mostly this is because they tend to take advantage of rough stones with large dimensions to cut stones in other shapes.
This diamond originates from a rough stone of 402 carats. The precious gemstone was found by DeBeers in Botswana (Africa) and the South African company Diacore was in charge of the cutting and shaping. A very difficult task that took 6 months of hard work.
You may be asking yourself, what will happen to this diamond? Well, in this particular case it will not be sold through the usual Sotheby´s auction. Instead, the doors have been opened to private offers in the new Sotheby´s store located on New Bond Street.
Regarding the price, we still do not have those details. But taking into account the quality and proportions of the gem, the price could easily reach millions of euros.
